What Is The Difference Between HMO And A PPO?
Medicare HMO Plan
This is a Network plan. You will be required to use in-network providers to access your medical care
EXCEPT IN AN EMERGENCY.
You choose a primary care doctor will manage and coordinate your care. Your primary care doctor will give you referrals for specialist visits and other tests and procedures.
If you choose to enroll in an HMO plan you should first check the availability of doctors and providers to make sure you will be happy with your coverage. If you choose to use providers who are not in the HMO network the plan will not pay the bill.
Medicare PPO Plan This type of plan has a network and will also allow you to use non-network providers (usually with a slightly higher co-pay). PPO plans have become popular since they give the consumer more choices regarding their medical care and providers. Anthem BCBS offers PPO plans in all counties of California for 2011.
